H is for...

Happy Days

Shows I was watching in the seventies is my theme for the A-Z challenge this April.

The thrill of seeing that jukebox pictured, then the record...it's coming! Get ready for today's earworm!
Arthur Fonzarelli. The Fonz. Jukebox starting, motorcycle repairing, shark jumping Fonzie. For thirty minutes each week he was my elementary school aged focus in life. Oh sure, I had love for Potsie as well, just to solidify an early indicator to a future of my being often conflicted. Don't get me wrong, I loved Howard, Marion and Joanie too, but they were family, and therefore perhaps taken for granted. I did respect Joanie though, and never considered trying to steal Chachi from her. (I did not respect her enough to appreciate Joanie Loves Chachi though.)

It seems like I am forgetting someone. Not Chuck Cunningham. Not Arnold or Al. Definitely not Ralph Malph. Not LoriBeth. Wait, Richie...Richie Cunningham. Looking back, was he like the moral compass of the show? At age eight, I was all about the Fonz, but now? Richie's plaid shirt, cuffed jeans and that smile. Let that keep you rockin' and rollin' all week long!

  2. I think it's best not to talk about Joanie Loves Chaci...
Happy Days!! One of the best shows Ever!! I actually squeed with delight when I saw this!
Okay, gonna stop my overuse of exclamation marks now.

  3. We watched Happy Days every week. Loved the 50s vibe. Richie and Fonzie were my faves. So awesome that Ron Howard became a famous movie director of some of the best films ever. And I still follow Henry Winkler's career. He appears in wonderful family films.

  4. I admit that I preferred when they used 'rock around the clock' as the theme song in Season 1. And poor Chuck getting written out of the show w/ no explanation! My 6 degrees of separation to Henry Winkler is we both attended Emerson College....though not at the same time!

  5. Who doesn't love Happy Days!? My best friend and I did a dance duet to Rock Around the Clock, the first theme song.

  6. I looked forward to Happy Days every week. My favorite bit: the jukebox not starting and The Fonz giving it a fist or a kick and it picking right up. I also was a sucker for Pinkie (during her short run). Great show. Great memories!

  7. Can't you just see him slicking back his hair with a comb and sidling off to the door? Great show, and such fun back in the day.

  8. Oh, man! I just shared that video on Facebook for #TBT :D You brought back all these awesome memories--thank you! (And yes, The Fonz was IT back then. But you're right... This side of 40, I can't imagine how I missed Richie's appeal :D )

  9. I love that we got the phrase, "jump the shark" from Happy Days. Have you ever seen Arrested Development? Hilarious references to Happy Days. :)
