You Give Love a Bad Name...Bon Jovi, 1986.
Angsty 80's songs, from the soundtrack of my life, is my theme for the A-Z challenge this year.
I remember taking a break from my freshman roommate, and her satin powder blue comforter, to see who else lived on our dorm's second floor. There was a room down the hall to be immediately envious of. The inhabitants were friends from high school, so let me describe the scene (as I remember it) that resulted from their planning...There were red ruffled curtains, matching red comforters, a red shaggy rug, and loud Bon Jovi music to accompany their eighties hairstyles as they danced on their beds.
An angel's smile is what you sell
You promised me heaven, then put me through hell
Chains of love got a hold on me
When passion's a prison you can't break free
Such drama! The words were so filled with angst...
No one can save me
The damage is done
...but the video was a hot happy hairy happening, that was hard to shake the picture of, for me.
Shot through the heart
And you're to blame
You give love a bad name
Playing my part for just one more letter....
At last.....My Jon. Many a night spent in dormrooms (after a few too many) wailing out the JBJ hits. Ahhhhh!
ReplyDeleteThey had a lot of great songs. The words for this one are terrific though.
ReplyDeleteDid you ever wish you were that girl who put that guy through hell and he kept coming back. And coming back. Okay, not so much wishing I were that girl, more so wishing I had that power over boys. :)
Loved me some JBJ, but I had the biggest crush on Richie Sambora!
ReplyDeleteAh, Bon Jovi! Big hair was big in Texas, so we all adored that band. I will be going through my MP3 collection looking for some Bon Jovi to get me through Monday!
ReplyDeleteFirst "tape" I ever bought = Slippery When Wet. I loves me some Jon. I think I even brought it to CCD once. Bad, bad Catholic.
ReplyDeleteHe just came out with a new album this month. Still cranking out the tunes! I love me some Bon Jovi!

I love that Richie Sambora has bangs.
ReplyDeleteYup...totally watching it again.
ReplyDeleteA lot of crotch shots by the way.
ReplyDelete...not that I'm complaining....

ReplyDeleteOh man, they were doing dorm living RIGHT. Love it! Perfect angsty song choice.
ReplyDeleteOne more, Andrea. Just one more. You're gonna make it!! :)
Gotta love Bon Jovi! :) Great 80's music and perfect for dorm room living :)
ReplyDeleteOh Jon Bon Jovi, how I loved your tight fitting leather trousers and your wild lion's mane of...what exactly is that colour? Still such a great tune.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Marianne, behave yourself...perv! :)
Shot through the heart and you're to blame....quite possibly the best song lyric of my high school existence.
ReplyDeleteThe Jersey girl in me just thanks you profusely.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to see Bon Jovi at a very small venue in NJ. It was amazing.

Oh geez, the memories! One of my best friends freshman year used to sing a medley of Bon Jovi songs. Hehehehehe, ah good times. :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I have many examples of dates that fit this song. My issue with my college roommate was that her boyfriend practically lived with us, she'd steal my clothes and wear them and then leave them all over the floor. (I did laundry on weekends at home...hated weekends at school with all the drunkenness and vomit in the hallways...and would hitch a ride with someone and then The Swede would bring me back). I never had anything to wear - drove me nuts ALL of it.

P.S Of course I told her not to wear my clothes, and yes, I tried hiding them...but no, she didn't care and did it anyway. I hung out with my friend in her room with her friends a lot.

I *lurve* this song!!!!!!!! Methinks I sung it to the entire pledge class of an old row fraternity at the University of Alabama, but it wasn't Mr. Art @ Home's pledge class so....shhhhhh!!!!! Don't tell him about it. Loose lips sink ships! ;P
