W is for...

Weekend in New England...Barry Manilow, 1976.

A Serenade of Seventies songs, from the soundtrack of my life, is my theme for the A-Z challenge this year.

Go ahead and exhale, Mr. Manilow has arrived! It was along wait, and believe me, Barry was not a patient man. He tried to bust in at several other letters. I had to fight off his Daybreak, Looks Like We Made It, and This One's For You advances, and there were nowhere near enough tissues to get me through Mandy. Things won't be quite the same without my enormous brown earphones, but let's do this...

Hey Mom, is it the same listening to this song without my sweet soprano drowning out Barry? I truly only remember you tapping me to lower my volume once. One more reason you are awesome! Wait, here comes my favorite part...

I feel the change comin'
I feel the wind blow
I feel brave and daring
I feel my blood flow

(deep breath)

With you I can bring out
All the love that I have
With you there's a heaven
So earth ain't so bad

(big finish)

And tell me
When will our eyes meet
When can I touch you
When will this strong yearning end
And when will I hold you again

  1. Manilow and the BeeGees....they were the dominant bands in the mid-70s! This was really popular here in, well, New England. My fave Manilow song is 'It's a Miracle"

  2. Nobody sings a love long like Barry Manilow. I really love this one. So many memories attached to this song.

He really was a force to be reckoned with in the music industry for the better part of a decade. And I still enjoy listening to him.

Nothing gets my foot tapping like a trip to the Copa.

  3. Ahhhh, it was almost exhausting waiting for Barry to appear. For C I waited for Copa, M is was sure would be kept us waiting Missy! But it was worth it. Sing it Barry!!

  4. I had this one on a 45! I am sure my parents were happy when I was over my Manilow phase...

  5. Those lyrics are compelling. Worth the wait!

  6. It's redeeming to find others who are Manilow fans like I am. Thank you for the post :)

  7. What, no Copacabana? That's my absolute favorite Manilow. Mandy is a close second. I was hoping to see him here!

  8. Never a Barry Manilow fan...ever. Sorry...

  9. Not surprised in the least that you are a Fanilow. At least he finally made it . . . into the A-Z.

  10. No 70s list is ever complete without Barry. This one is one of my faves, definitely.

  11. I saw him earlier this year. He was wonderful, and I wuv his music. It was such a romantic evening, but I went with my friend Carol because Willy Dunne Wooters wouldn't go.

  12. Hmmmm....what can one say about Barry?

  13. Memories! (He couldn't even break C for Copa Cabana??)

  14. Barry is my all-time favorite. I think I own every piece of his piano sheet music. He's incredible in concert. Okay, he's just incredible, period!

  15. I love this song.....another genius, really.

  16. I'm so glad Barry is cool now. So under-rated.
