S is for...

…Shrek 1, 2, AND 3*

Soundtracks That Mattered (to me) is my theme for the A-Z Challenge this April.

*In honor of the letter s, and its power to pluralize, it seemed wrong to choose just one movie from the series (yet apparently acceptable to leave one out).

We were Shrek junkies from the start. The first soundtrack had it all, or so I thought at the time, having no idea what the next ones would bring. Incredibly fun original songs, as well as great remakes to sing along with.
I thought it would be fun this time around to use the movie clips, since I found them! This song worked best when sung loudly, car windows down of course, accompanied by a 3 and 6 year old. Everyone had an important part - Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh...

Shrek 2 brought Counting Crows, Bowie and a really cool song by Dashboard Confessional. We were livin' la vida loca for sure with this in our car.
Absolutely putting these back in my car tomorrow! This song makes me grin so hard it hurts, while my eyes fill with tears. Come on, come on!

Then, when it seemed it couldn't get much better - Shrek 3 came with the Ramones, Wings, Fergie with an awesome remake and...
...Led Zeppelin! One of those bands I knew I wanted my kids to be familiar with, but where and when to start? Thanks Shrek 3!

  2. LOL - Shrek does have awesome music. I find most music works best sung along to loudly, especially in the car :)

  3. I've seen the first one but I don't remember the music. I guess it's different when you don't have kids who watch movies over and over. lol

    1. We listened to the music far more than rewatching movies

  4. I'm familiar with the first soundtrack, but not the other two. Loved that first one, though. And based on the artists listed on the other two, I'm missing out.

    1. It is so much different now with music online obviously. Used to be that soundtracks seemed like a great way to get a variety of artists for one price.

  6. I saw the first one of these but not the rest... I agree that the music on the soundtracks is very good. I thought their choices were interesting as to when use the original and when to use a cover.

  7. I have seen Shrek!
My oldest daughter never got into it.
I am told I will love it so maybe one day I will watch it.
Maybe I should just listen to the soundtrack instead.

  8. I think I only saw the first one which was perfectly delightful even without the soundtrack (which looks pretty awesome from your post). Fun idea for a theme. You may have already mentioned but one of my other favorite movie soundtracks is from Remember the Titans with Denzel.

    1. They really were...aside from the one not mentioned which was a bit dark from what I remember (yes, even darker than the frog prince's passing in 3)
