Y is for...

You Light Up My Life...Debby Boone, 1977.

A Serenade of Seventies songs, from the soundtrack of my life, is my theme for the A-Z challenge this year.

Darn it! Where are my rollerskates?!? Why is it so bright in here, and where are those disco lights? This song finds me eight years old, trying to perfect my turns, as I roll solo around the rink.

Waiting for someone to sing me his song
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the dark, but now you've come along

Make no mistake, he did not come skating along...and I probably fell trying to exit the rink.

I feel like this is the perfect time to let you all know how much I appreciate you joining me for this month's seventies serenade.

Finally a chance to say "Hey I love you"

Never again to be all alone

Well, that was almost creepy. How about just thank you...

And you light up my life

You give me hope to carry on
You light up my days
And fill my nights with song

Seriously, thanks for singing along!

  1. Oh oh oh.........LoVE this song. The hours I must have spent singing into my hair brush. I will happily have this as my ear worm for the day. "It can't be wrong, when it feels so right"

  2. Summer of 77. There was a DJ in Boston on my fave station WRKO who was really funny....he used to call this 'You Light Up My Shorts'. Cracked me up.

  4. I used to belt this randomly to my brother, and he was always so impressed with my singing prowess. Then again, what does a 4 year old know?

  5. Ah, Debbie. The only song we junior high girls sang more often was The Rose. Good times.

  6. Now this is a blast from the past!! Loved this song and like TMV Hickman, we also sang this and the Rose throughout junior high. Both songs were popular solo choices in choir.

  7. This song brings back memories. How many times did I play this on my record player? I really couldn't tell you....

This has been lots of fun. One of the most enjoyable themes of the A to Z:)

  8. Oh boy...does that ever strike a chord! In high school during mid-late '70s. Let's hope some of that never returns!

  11. Another winner. I love this song! I'm so impressed with all the titles you have come up with! I'm just now getting to your blog on the linky list. I worked backwards from the 2000 end point. :-)

  12. Yup, yup, yup. I remember playing and rewinding that cassette player hundreds of time just to write down the lyrics as I heard them. Psshh, kids these days have it so easy.
