K is for...

Knock Three Times...Tony Orlando & Dawn, 1971.

A Serenade of Seventies songs, from the soundtrack of my life, is my theme for the A-Z challenge this year.

I am going to start right off by admitting that for quite some time I thought these three people were Tony, Orlando and Dawn. I did not realize that Dawn was sharing a name.

I have had this song stuck in my head for at least four days of this month. Finally we have reached the letter to set it free...into your head! You're welcome.

Hey girl whatcha doin down there
Dancin alone every night
While I live right above you

I had these visions of some matchmaking apartment complex...

Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me
Twice on the pipe, if the answer is no

...that must have had an exposed plumbing system.

  1. There could have been no other choice for K. It had to be this one. I love it. I'm starting to realize the 70's was the decade for ear worm music. I'm on my way to the farmers market where I will no doubt be caught humming this tune

  3. I watched that Tony Orlando variety show. Great song. Although these days, if some knocked on my floor or pipes I would call Ghostbusters.

  8. Yes ! Good song. Funny the impressions we get from group/band names and lyrics we mis-hear and mis-sing for years before realizing our mistakes!

  11. "that must have had an exposed plumbing system"--I know! What's with that? Perhaps Tony should have been a plumber? He might have had a better chance at getting in on the dance... :)

  17. I remember watching their TV show. I also recall having a difficult time with their name as a kid. How could they both be Dawn? Wouldn't it be Dawns???? Ha!

Arlee Bird over at Tossing It Out wrote a blog about songs that get in your head and won't leave. He calls them earworms. I thought that was pretty funny.

  20. LOL I always thought that both options were a bad idea….we had one of those "popcorn" ceilings, and I'd never seen a pipe in my life! WTH???

  25. We sang this song to death, and yes, I remember having some vague idea that they lived in a tenement, and that that was not really the way it all worked. But it was catchy and fun, and who cared? Thanks for the memories!
