V is for...

Ventura Highway...America, 1972.

A Serenade of Seventies songs, from the soundtrack of my life, is my theme for the A-Z challenge this year.

Tell me, how long you gonna stay here, Joe?

Until the letter Z? Well that is fantastic!! I am happy to have you. Can I interest you in a piece of grass to chew on?

'Cause the free wind is blowin' through your hair
All the days surround your daylight there
Seasons crying no despair
Alligator lizards in the air, in the air

Sure the song sounds all nice and peaceful, lulling us in, but what on earth is an alligator lizard? Do they fly? I think I shall trot off to safety...on a horse with no name, of course.

  1. Alligator lizards? Sounds like some songwriters imbibed a bit more than necessary!

  2. This is one of my fave songs ever. My only complaint is that it's way too short. I love America! (except for Muskrat Love).

  3. I didn't know that I knew this song until it started playing. Ha!

While I was watching the video it occurred to me that The Beatles was the first "boy band" and bands like "America" soon followed.

  4. OK, not one of my favorites but perhaps I am still under the influence of sugar and philanthropy and can't truly appreciate it. (I'm waiting for Barry)

  5. I've been through the desert on a horse with no name, but I can't say I saw any flying alligator lizards. Oh the 70s... ;)

  6. I would have never guessed in a million years that they were saying "alligator lizards in the air." What the . . . ??? Frightening. How many drugs did they take before writing THAT stellar lyric?

  7. It's true. I'm the Daisy Jane they seek. I believe I've seen America five times. They were excellent every time.

    Love,

  9. Woosh! What a head rush. I haven't heard these past few songs in decades. Brings back memories. Funny how certain songs and melodies can send you back to things you thought were forgotten.

  11. Their songs might not have made sense, but they sure were easy ones to sing and remember. I did like America. (gosh I feel so old remembering all these songs)

  12. Hi Andrea .. they are easy to listen to .. and we can imagine driving across America .. as they say with the wind through our hair ..

Ventura Highway sounds a good name and I rather like the phrase Alligator lizards in the sky .. reference back to the dinosaurs?

    Cheers Hilary
