Lonely Night...Captain & Tennille, 1976.
A Serenade of Seventies songs, from the soundtrack of my life, is my theme for the A-Z challenge this year.
Lonely night
I cry myself to sleep
Tell me what am I gonna do...
In the summer of 1977, my mother took me to see the Captain & Tennille in concert. (Awesome, I know!) Daily singalongs with them on our stereo had me more than ready. Can't you turn back the hands of time, to the days when you were mine, and each other's?
I promise you I'll change my ways
I promise you love's here to stay
Hey, little man depend on me
I'll be yours for eternity
Sadly, that didn't work out quite as planned. Guess someone will have to Shop Around now.

That video is hysterical. Thanks for the morning giggle
ReplyDeleteOh to be that young again, I remember Captain and Tennille well.
ReplyDeleteThey were so much more than Muskrat Love!
DeleteMy favorite Captain and Tennille song was Love Will Keep Us Together. A friend of mine even had hand motions to go with all of the words. Her mom drove a station wagon. We sat in the very back (illegal now) and sang that song and worked on our hand motions. Ah... good times.
ReplyDeleteYou got to see them in concert?? How awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those songs that I don't think I remember, and then it gets to the "angel face" refrain, and the "can't get you out of my mind" part, and I get a sudden nostalgia rush. Somewhere in the Seventies this song lodged itself into my head, and lay buried until now. I had a similar experience with Alessi's song "Oh Lori" (I mentioned it in a blog post a few years ago: http://www.colindsmith.com/blog/2012/01/22/that-was-the-week-that-was-2/).
ReplyDeleteI loved the Captain and Tennille growing up. I got to see them perform live once and they were awesome! ♥
ReplyDeleteLove will keep us together.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I never heard this one before. I'm bummed that they have decided to separate.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that they're from Alabama???? Yep!!!
ReplyDeleteYou guys were definitely hip chicks. Don't know the song you picked, but sure do know "Shop Around".

MUSKRAT LOVE!! LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER!! I was hoping you'd choose the Captain and Tennille!! Woo hoo!!
ReplyDeleteThe video is classic! Couldn't remember the song until I heard it and then a flood of memories came over me!
ReplyDeleteThat photo of the album is priceless! WOW! Do I remember pouring over those words and singing along! Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh! I was hoping somebody would notice the photo!
DeleteApparently, Love DIDN'T keep them together.
DeleteA really nice track, I haven't heard of these artists.
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea - Capn and Tennille - had some great sing-along-songs .. this one I didn't know .. and yes - your photo with your Mum is fun to see .. being young once again! - oh those would be the good days .. still it's ok now too!! - Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteWTH is on her sweater?!? I'm so glad I'm not the only who had difficulty getting the right side of my head to match the left side when I had that hairdo.

I was shocked and saddened too, when I heard that they had parted. I actually played for Daryl's father Carmen in Los Angeles when I was All-State in 1972. I didn't know for years and years that Daryl was his son. I just hope we're not subjected to some "Muskrat Love" in their search for new partners.
ReplyDeleteAnother divorce. What is it about rock 'n roll and failed marriages? Fine. I guess they did stick it out for like 50 years.
