K is for...

Kayleigh...Marillion, 1985.

Angsty 80's songs, from the soundtrack of my life, is my theme for the A-Z challenge this year.

I was first introduced to this song as a freshman in college. I was immediately taken in, and overcome, by the story it told. I nearly cried just now as I heard the first few bars play when I found the video. Remembering those cream paint colored cinder block walls of our dorm rooms, the tissues we went through pining over our teenage romances gone wrong, as well as the ones we were struggling to keep intact. The song was a reminder of how the sweetest love could go wrong, and how crushing it would feel if that happened.

I can't even pick out a few lines, as you need the whole package! Enjoy...

  2. I didn't recognize the name of this one, or the song when I listened. Must not have been too popular around where we lived.

  5. I was hoping that I just didn't recognize the name, but when I heard it on the video, the lightbulb would go on. But I've still got nothing. I have never heard this song before, ever. So bizarre. And holy 80's hair, batman!!

  6. OMG, Andrea, I LOVE Marillion!!! I got to see them in person in San Francisco back that same year (1985) and it was a great concert. That was when Fish was still the lead singer. Must go dig out that CD....

  13. This is just great. Nowadays, Marillion is now Fish free and a cornishman called Steve Hogarth sings for them. He isn't the singer Fish was, but he is a fantastic songwriter. Check out the albums Marillions, Brave and Marbles for how they sound now. Also, one of the first bands to "crowdsource" an album all the way back in the 1990's.
