52 Weeks of Happiness - Week 31

We drove for two hours, passing beautiful scenery down the east side of Seneca Lake (one of the Finger Lakes if you aren't familiar with these parts...in Central New York if the former wasn't helpful)...
...that made me happy!

Then we had a picnic at this little park, complete with sketchy playground equipment, right at the southern tip of the lake...
Unfortunately, there was no mud for me to re-enact one of my traumatic childhood memories for the kids.
Am still not sure which of these faces I trust more to not bounce me off that thing.
As I slowly realized what the kids meant by this slide not really having any support...(click) "GET DOWN FROM THERE!"
...that made me happy!

We traveled just a few more miles to Watkins Glen, our final destination...

...that made me happy!

The kids let me take as many photos as I wanted...

We are all smiling AND have our eyes open...
The lady who took this didn't move the camera even further to her left...
Their sense of humor, and agreeing to more pictures...
...these things all made me so very happy!

Stepping away from our normal routine, getting outside, leaving (most) electronics behind, enjoying each other's company and nature...

...that made me happy!

Don't forget to visit Leigh!

  1. Y'all are so cute!
I LOVE Watkins Glen--it used to be our "regular" stop back whe my mom lived in Wolcott. It was about halfway between my husband's home town and mine, so it was a great place to get out and walk around with the kids.

  2. OH MY GOD! You and my husband need to hang. We were at a park with one of those old-fashioned spinny things and he grabbed the kids off it citing some traumatic childhood injury involving his chin and a lot of blood. I was all "but those are SO FUN." And he was all "they will totally DIE."

Beautiful pics! Your family is picture-frame worthy (as in, "the family who came with the frame").

    1. I just got a faceful of mud, but now will worry about stitches next time! I had a post-lunch vomit fear as well (for no good reason). The slide had no support other than the ladder and the feet at the bottom, and it was high! If your firefighter husband is concerned, then i am totally justified...thank him for me and neurotic folk everywhere!

They used my son once for some newspaper thing, but not my husband or me...he was the little boy in some other family photo. I felt pretty good about that...ha!

  4. Well, dangit! You just made ME happy! First, because I saw your name in my inbox. And now with these gorgeous, gorgeous photos! I went to college by a finger lake, so these bring back happy memories. What a great family photo!!!! You all look so wonderful. Too bad that lady was too lazy to shift. Your poor son is leaning hard just to be included! Hehehehehe

    Sending you big giant hugs!

    1. Which Finger Lake? (Or I suppose I could've asked which college, but where is the fun in that?) It is so nice to have you back. Believe it or not, that was the better of the two pics she took! ha ha ha!

  5. Ha! That comment about the lady who took the picture made me laugh. It seems like every time we have someone take a picture for us, the same thing happens. Don't get me wrong; I appreciate them helping, but it baffles me how terrible someone could be at doing it. Is that what all their family pictures look like? Glad you had a wonderful time. The pictures do look great (even the off-center one!).

  6. And her husband had a rally nice camera, so I thought there might be some actual skill...not for her though! :)

  7. Gorgous pics! That place looks so beautiful. And your kids are a riot! What a great family photo as well. At least it was clear and she just got everyone in. My friend and I went to a play, handed my iphone to a girl who was holding her own iphone, and she took 2 pictures, one fuzzier than the last! Such a shame, because we looked uber beautiful that night as well! ;)

    1. The Finger Lakes are loaded with wineries up and down as well, so maybe that with the beautiful gorge will get you up this way some time! Blurry awesome photos are almost worse than no photos, as you see what could've been!
